This Grand Sport replica is a ridiculously fun Corvette that offers more enjoyment than you might have thought possible from a mid-year.
It takes the dramatic look of the 1963 Grand Sport race cars with their unmistakable fender flares, vented hood, special tail, and fixed headlights, and combines that with a great 355ci V8, 5-speed transmission, 4-wheel disc brakes, side exhaust, and more.
The result is a must-see, must-hear, must-drive car.
Completed in 2001 with 2,400 miles since, this example started life as a 1964 coupe and was subsequently converted by Mid America Industries to the form you see here.
The body is very well done and does not exhibit any stress cracks.
All the great Grand Sport features are present and really make the car stand out! The body was painted white with red striping and also features vinyl graphics.
It includes two sets of clear headlight covers along with one set of white covers.
There are also two sets of black side pipes along with a set of heat shields and muffler inserts.
The 15 Torque Thrust style wheels wear new 255/60 tires in front and 275/60 in back.
The original engine was replaced with a fresh 355ci small block Chevy.
It uses a 4-bolt main block with ARP fasteners throughout.
There is a fully balanced rotating assembly using a forged Eagle crankshaft and rods along with Ross forged aluminum pistons (10.
25:

The camshaft is a Comp Cams 12-242-2 while the heads are 3890462 castings with 2.

60 valves.
Up top is a dual plane aluminum intake with a Holley 600 cfm carburetor fed by a Holley electric pump.
The ignition uses an MSD 6AL box and matching distributor with a proper vacuum advance.
There is also an oversized aluminum radiator with dual electric fans.
The mechanical improvements go far beyond the engine! The transmission is a 5-speed Richmond (3.
27/2.

57/1.
23/1.
00).
There is a Hays 10.
5 clutch with Tilton hydraulics and a scattershield.
The rear end uses a 3.
08 gearset with Positraction.
The brakes have been converted to 4-wheel discs with dual Tilton master cylinders and a balance rod.
The front suspension has been fitted with a Dick Guldstrand racing style front sway bar while the rear suspension uses a fiberglass monoleaf spring.
The car also has power steering and a 22-gallon fuel cell.
While many Grand Sport replicas are quite spartan inside, this one offers a complete interior.
The carpeting, seats, and headliner are all new.
There are also door panels and a complete dashboard with glove box.
A 4-point roll bar is present along with side visors.
Other features include a Painless wiring harness and a hidden cutoff switch.
There is a full suite of Autometer gauges, all of which function properly.
The wipers, horn, lights, turn signals, door windows, and vent windows all work too.
Note it does not have a heater / defroster, radio, or parking brake.
The rear trunk compartment offers a small storage area and access to the fuel cell.
The car also comes with several folders of build information along with a listing of parts like radiator hoses, drive belt, filters, and more.
This Corvette is not some slapped together kit car.
It is a solid, well-built vehicle that offers exhilarating performance and intoxicating sounds.
It is titled as a 1964 Chevrolet and has the original VIN and trim tags under the glove box.
While many C2 Corvettes are perceived as trailer queens or handled with kid gloves, this one quickly dispels that notion and will have you anxiously awaiting your next stretch of open road.
