You don't see many of these! This 1961 Oldsmobile Starfire represents the first year of the Starfire as its own model.
It was the top-of-the-line Oldsmobile that year and only available as a convertible.
This gorgeous car has been called one of the most beautiful automobiles of all time.
Loaded with luxury, it is a stunning design that still turns heads more than 60 years later.
And with $35k spent in the last few years, this one also drives as good as it looks.
Oldsmobile built fewer than 8,000 examples of this one-year-only Starfire.
It is a remarkable jet-age design with a very sleek look but without the gaudy excess of previous years.
The continuous side cove and inlay really grabs your eye, while the downward sloped rear and underside fins are without compare.
The car has been repainted an attractive pearlescent white (originally Provincial White).
In 2016 its owner spent more than $7k to replate / refinish the exterior trim pieces and bumpers, while in 2018 the convertible top and motor were professionally replaced.
2022 saw new Truespoke wheels with Coker wide whitewall tires.
Also included are the original wheels with good P215/75R14 tires and the unique Starfire covers.
The 394ci V8 engine was redone in 2019.
It was factory rated at 330 hp and a massive 440 lb-ft or torque.
This is mated to a Roto Hydra-Matic four range automatic transmission followed by a 3.
42 rear end.
Everything is in proper running condition.
The power steering and power brakes both have plenty of assist, as expected of the marquee.
This makes the car easy for anyone to drive.
A great deal of mechanical work has also been performed last year including new upper control arm pivots, lower ball joints, master cylinder, wheel cylinders, voltage regulator, starter, alternator (disguised as a generator), and mufflers.
The red interior is clearly a cut above other models of the day.
The carpet and seat covers have all been redone and look magnificent.
The dash, door panels, and steering wheel have a more distinguished look as well.
The center console with shifter and tachometer is one of the first such arrangements for an automatic transmission.
Much functional work has also been completed recently including new vacuum lines and switches for the heat / defrost / ventilation systems along with a new heater core.
A new sound system with remote was installed in the glove box and the power antenna was replaced.
The headlights, brake lights, backup lights, wipers, power windows, and power seat all work too.
The 1961 Starfire really is an automotive gem.
It's hard to believe Oldsmobile changed such a beautiful design after just one year, but that makes it all the more special.
This car has seen a great deal of cosmetic, mechanical, and functional work as described above.
A binder of receipts is also included along with an owner's manual.
This model can be hard to come by, especially in such turn-key condition.
Don't miss out!.
