If you really enjoy driving then you are probably familiar with the Triumph Spitfire.
This classic British roadster is a real hoot to drive.
Rather than relying on a large displacement engine with gobs of horsepower, the Spitfire used a lightweight design (about 1,800 pounds) with an emphasis on handling combined with a peppy 4-cylinder engine and 4-speed transmission.
This restored 1976 model takes things a step further with a modified dual carb 1.
5L engine and overdrive.
The combination will give any capable driver a rewarding experience.
This Triumph was completely restored from 2009-2012.
Paperwork shows the car was blasted to bare metal followed by significant body work that covered every panel on the car.
It was then painted a bright red that you can't miss, while the bumpers and lenses were done in black.
The resulting car looks great top and bottom; be sure to see the underside pictures and the excellent floor pans.
This example also has the optional hard top that is painted to match.
The 8-spoke alloy wheels add to the car's sporty look too.
The engine was replaced with the correct FM series 1.
5L but with a few modifications.
The original single carb setup was replaced with a Euro-style dual SU arrangement.
There is also an Allison electronic ignition along with a ceramic coated header and Magnaflow muffler.
Note this car does not have a catalytic converter.
The 4-speed transmission is backed by the optional overdrive which is engaged by a rocker switch on the shifter.
This is always a plus for older cars on the highway (especially when you have 13 wheels).
The suspension, brakes, and steering are all in proper condition with many replacement parts.
The black interior offers a surprising amount of room for such a car.
The dual bucket seats have been recovered and are rather comfortable.
Behind them is a small storage area where you will also find two speakers.
The black seats, carpet, and door panels are complemented by the attractive woodgrain dashboard.
The speedometer, gauges, lights, turn signals, horn, wipers, heater/defroster, and parking brake all work as they should.
There is also an aftermarket stereo system mounted just forward of the shifter.
Floor mats are also provided.
The trunk compartment is nice and tidy and houses a spare tire.
The Spitfire is a rather popular car and cheap examples are plentiful.
However, a cheap English roadster from the 1970's can end up being a significant investment.
This one is updated and sorted, making it a true turn-key fun machine for the next owner.
It is a pure and simple automotive experience that will have you grinning from ear to ear.
