Old station wagons have their own kind of cool.
They are unlike anything you can buy today, with their classic car looks, V8 engines, and generous proportions.
This 1964 Ford Fairlane Custom Ranch wagon captures the look of Ford's finest and is somewhat rare; when is the last time you saw one of these on the road? This one also has a few performance upgrades like a 347ci engine and four-wheel disc brakes to make it even more special.
This Fairlane was built at the Kansas City plant and sold through the Atlanta DSO.
With a southern upbringing, this car has remained free of any rust problems top or bottom.
It has been repainted in its original code P Prairie Bronze and fitted with styled steel wheels for a sporty look.
Much of the chrome, trim, emblems, and lenses have been reconditioned or replaced.
This includes the roof rails, Fairlane 500 script, and 289 fender badges.
Note the rear bumper steps too.
Originally powered by a C-code 289ci V8, this Fairlane has a lot more scoot today thanks to a stroked 347ci small block.
Engine highlights include Edelbrock aluminum heads, RPM Air-Gap intake, and Performer 4-barrel carburetor with electric choke.
It also has an MSD 6AL ignition, Hooker headers, Milodon 8-quart oil pan, and an aluminum radiator.
The original Cruise-o-Matic transmission has been replaced with a rebuilt C4.
The rear end has 3.
25 gears for nice highway cruising.
There are many new parts throughout the steering and suspension systems, and the brakes have been converted to discs all around along with a dual reservoir master cylinder.
The old Palomino interior has been completely redone in black and looks terrific.
The dual bench seats have subtle white piping and dual lap belts in front.
The door panels, carpet, dash pad, and headliner have all been replaced and are in great condition.
Equally impressive are the dashboard, gauges, steering wheel, and horn ring.
A set of oil pressure and water temperature gauges were added under the dash along with a Moon tachometer.
The gauges, lights, turn signals, heater, horn, wipers, and AM radio all work properly.
In back, the tailgate has a power window while the rear storage area is fully carpeted.
The rear facing third seat compartment is lined with rubber and is great for storage.
One other interesting note about this Fairlane.
It made a brief appearance in the 2011 movie Kill The Irishman with Val Kilmer at the wheel.
It can be seen around the 30 minute mark if you are interested.
The sight of a station wagon from this era is becoming less frequent.
It is even more unusual to see one like this Fairlane.
It is a solid specimen with fantastic lines and plenty of updates.
And how else can you have all this space and still look so cool?.
