For Sale: 1987 Oldsmobile Delta 88 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin for sale in Manitowoc, WI
Vehicle Description Here is something special from NASCAR's glory days.
You will sometimes see a prominent ex-NASCAR vehicle, but too often it has been sitting in storage for decades and needs a major commitment to put it back on the track.
On the other hand, you may see a vintage stock car actively competing at a modern event, but without any real provenance.
Well this one is the best of both worlds.
Not only is this Lake Speed's actual car from his amazing 1987 campaign, but it is also a ready-to-run vintage racer that is fresh off a VSCDA weekend at Road America.
Lake Speed (his real name) had a huge run in NASCAR with more than 400 career starts from 1980-1998.
In 1987 he started his own race team as an owner-driver and ran this very car through 14 Winston Cup races, scoring six top ten finishes including a third place at the Coca-Cola 600 and a second at the Winston Open.
That would be a great season for any driver, but we're not talking about some big-name race team with a huge budget.
This was a guy who did it all himself, making things all the more impressive.
This racer is based on a 1981 Hutcherson Pagan chassis with a 110 wheelbase and fitted with a steel Oldsmobile Delta 88 body (as was run by several teams that year).
The car saw other ownership and graphics over the years but was returned to Lake's unmistakable purple and white paint scheme around 2002.
Note the primary sponsorship logos of Wynn's, K-Mart, and Delco Battery are all hand painted Of course the drivetrain has also seen a few changes over the years.
It now runs a Chevrolet small block from Motor Masters (Hartford, WI).
This is not somebody's glorified street setup; it is a real 650hp dry sump racing engine.
The transmission is a Jerico 4-speed which is followed by an SCP quick-change rear end.
The brakes use Wilwood calipers with 6-pistons in front and 4-pistons in back.
The car also has power steering.
The interior features a Butler racing seat with full halo along and a new harness.
There is also a Kirkey ridealong seat.
All the expected race gauges and equipment are present along with a full fire suppression system.
The car is easy to start and very fun to drive on track.
Everything is in race-ready condition and was most recently prepped by Valu Pro Motorsports (Reedsville, WI).
This is a turn-key race car that is ready to go and includes a current log book.
It is very competitive in the SCC (Stock Car C) class and can also be run in the SPO (Super Production Over) class at regional SCCA events.
It last competed at the VSCDA Vintage Festival at Road America from September 17-19, 2021 where it turned a best weekend time of 2:
26 with a new-to-the-car driver! This unique offering is a piece of NASCAR history; Monogram even sold a 1:
24 model kit based on this very car.
But it is also an active, competitive vintage racer.
Note this is a dedicated race car; there is no title and it is not legal for street use.
Also we can help with a driver, coaching, prep, track support, or transportation as needed.
Whether you want to make a splash at your next track day or compete in a vintage race, this one will do it with speed and style.
