Here is a car that will make a back seat driver out of anyone.
Literally! This 1951 Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe is truly one-of-a-kind and will generate more double-takes than a Batmobile at Comic-Con.
Its gasser stance and green metalflake paint are quite a sight by themselves.
But the real jolt is when people realize the front seat has been displaced by a dual-quad tunnel ram small block! Still, even with all this craziness you still have a real car that is easy to drive with power steering, power brakes, lights, turn signals, wipers, and more.
Twisted is not some fiberglass reproduction.
Its body, doors, hood, and trunk are all Chevrolet steel, and its factory ID tag is still riveted in place.
The car rides on its original frame and 115 wheelbase - but with a few modifications.
The big one is relocating the engine to the front seat compartment, and then converting the rear seat to a fully finished driver's compartment.
The look on people's faces at a stoplight can be very entertaining! Other changes include a solid front axle with leaf springs and power disc brakes, and a Ford 9 rear end on ladder bars and adjustable coilovers.
This Chevy left the factory with a 235ci straight six and a Powerglide transmission.
But those days are gone.
Now under the hood you will find a battery, aluminum radiator, electric cooling fan, fire extinguisher, and not much else.
Meanwhile, between the front doors sits a built 350ci Chevrolet based on a 10066036 block.
It is topped by an Edelbrock high rise intake manifold with dual 4-barrel carburetors.
The exhaust uses Schoenfeld headers, hidden mufflers, and electric cutouts that dump under the front doors.
The transmission is a TH350 automatic followed by the previously mentioned Ford 9.
The interior is quite impressive.
Aside from driving in back, it looks and feels like something the factory might have produced.
The adjustable bucket seats are very comfortable and offer a good driving position along with a tilt steering column.
There is a complete dashboard with a full set of gauges and a glove box.
You will also find a center console with a B&M shifter and an overhead console with a stereo and accent lighting controls.
The gauges, speedometer, lights, turn signals, and horn all work like on any other car.
There are even windshield wipers! All the door windows still function too, even those in front.
We've had all types of hot rods, gassers, street machines, and other such cars though our dealership.
But we've never had anything like Twisted.
It shows a great degree of imagination and mechanical aptitude, and while it has an outrageous look it is still easy (and fun) to drive.
You simply will not find its equal.
