This attractive 1965 Mustang coupe combines sharp looks and reliable mechanicals into an affordable package that is a great reminder of the excitement generated by the first generation Mustang.
This one saw an extensive amount of restoration work from 2013-2018 and is in turn-key condition.
It is also a great way to get into a classic car without having to take out a second mortgage.
This project started with a car that needed a lot of love.
It was completely disassembled and all the typical rust issues were repaired.
This included fixing the cowl which is a notorious problem area for these old Mustangs and not easy to correct (which is why many people don't do it).
Once the body had been restored it was repainted its original Prarie Bronze and received many new parts; bumpers, moldings, bezels, lenses, emblems, door handles, seals, etc.
The final result is a very attractive car.
The 200 cubic inch inline-6 engine was completely rebuilt with a 0.
040 overbore.
The crankshaft was turned 0.
010/ 0.
010 while the cylinder head was resurfaced and received hardened valve seats.
The block was repainted blue at the same time.
This is essentially a stock build of a very reliable engine.
The C4 automatic transmission was also rebuilt and now uses a conventional shift pattern rather than the unique white dot / green dot arrangement.
The rear end houses 2.
83 gears for good highway performance.
All other mechanical systems were also rebuilt.
There are many new parts throughout the brakes, steering, and suspension; bushings, control arms, springs, KYB shocks, tie rod ends, adjuster sleeves, master cylinder, wheel cylinders, and more.
It makes for a very nice riding car that is free of squeaks and rattles, and is also safe to drive.
There is also a new fuel tank and a new exhaust.
The original Palomino interior was gutted.
All metal surfaces were painted the body color while the rest was done in black, creating a nice two-tone cabin.
Here too new items abound; seat covers, carpet, door panels, headliner, dash pad, sill plates, steering wheel, etc.
Everything works properly including the speedometer (which is accurate), gauges, lights, horn, heater, defroster, backup lights, turn signals, and parking brake.
The radio was replaced with a modern unit from Custom Autosound which retains the factory dash cutout.
This Mustang presents a very appealing package.
It looks fantastic, has many thousands in updates, and is ready to drive.
While classic car prices have really taken off in the last year, this one remains an affordable way to get into one of the favorite cars of the 1960's without inheriting somebody's unfinished project.
Take a look around this price range and I think you'll agree.
