Now here is a classic! This 1957 Oldsmobile Golden Rocket 88 is one of the nicest looking vehicles Detroit produced in the 50's.
The smooth lines, stylish trim, and two-tone paint have a grace and character befitting of the brand, and a bit less garish than most GM counterparts.
And did anyone make a more attractive interior than Oldsmobile? Further, beyond these aesthetics you will find the top-of-the-line J2 tri-power V8 engine and lots of refurbishment work, all of which contributes to a very desirable automobile.
This Olds has been repainted in gray and white along with a red accent stripe.
This attractive color combination is highlighted by excellent trim throughout along with spoked wheels wearing Coker wide whitewall tires.
Note the faux spotlights as well.
The car has a straight body and a rust-free frame, while the floors have received some repair work.
Other features include that stately front grille, hidden fuel filler door, and the Holiday coupe's pillarless hardtop.
The engine is Oldsmobile's 371ci Rocket V8 with the J2 tri-power package featuring a trio of Rochester carburetors.
This setup was rated at 300 hp and 415 ft-lbs of torque - lofty numbers for 1957 and even surpassing the best Corvette engine that year (283 hp).
Note the Powermaster alternator disguised as a generator.
The automatic transmission is the Jet-Away 4-speed Hydra-Matic.
While this is a big car, the large power drum brakes and power steering make it easy for anyone to operate.
The cushy suspension offers a very comfortable ride as well.
The interior has been completely redone including the seats, dashboard, door panels, carpeting, headliner, and more.
It features a tri-tone theme of white, gray, and black that shows why Oldsmobile really meant something in 1957.
The heat / defrost / ventilation has all been rebuilt and functions properly - how often do you see that? It includes a new heater core and vacuum actuators.
The speedometer, horn, lights, and turn signals all work too.
Same with the old tube AM radio.
The wipers have been converted from vacuum to electric for more consistent operation, and front seat belts were also installed.
Nothing captures the flavor of the 1950's like these big classics.
While this Oldsmobile maintains all that panache, it does so without some of the outrageous styling or color fads of the day, maintaining a more dignified appearance more than 60 years later.
All this plus a smooth ride with J2 power (which will never go out of style) makes for a car you won't want to miss.
