I'm sure you've seen plenty of classic Ford F250 Highboy pickups.
They are very desirable trucks with their rugged 4x4 suspensions and other unique features.
The trouble is, many of them have been well used through the years and now suffer from dented bodies, rusty beds, and ratty interiors.
Well not this one.
This 1974 model was redone with a 44k-mile body that is in amazing condition.
We are talking about a hard-to-find Explorer package with its Castillo Red and Wimbledon White paint along with the Explorer stripes, badging, and hood ornament.
Everything appears original and is truly remarkable for an almost 50-year-old pickup, showing just the right amount of wear and age.
More importantly, the body is straight and rust free; be sure to look at all the pictures including those under the doors.
You won't find many unrestored examples like this one! The underside is all 1974 Highboy with a solid front axle and leaf springs throughout.
The engine is the original 360ci FE mated to a C6 automatic transmission.
The somewhat rare NP203 divorced transfer case provides full-time four wheel drive with two ranges.
The front axle is the correct closed-knuckle Dana 44 with drum brakes while the rear is a full floating Dana 60, all with eight wheel studs.
Other features include power steering and power brakes.
Note the tires have an aggressive tread (noisy) and are more than ten years old.
The interior is even more impressive than the exterior and nothing like you'd expect from a 1970's 4x4.
The red dash, doors, and carpet are nicely accented by the white seat with plaid inserts.
All gauges are present and functional with a very clean lens and surround.
There is a factory AM radio and high output heater / defroster.
The cab originally had a/c with separate controls but there is no supporting equipment.
The wipers, horn, lights, turn signals, and parking brake all work properly.
Even the glove box light still works.
An important note as you shop for old trucks.
Many rebodied pickups look great but can present big title and emissions problems if not addressed properly.
This one has been correctly handled with the Wisconsin State Patrol and DOT.
The truck remains titled as a 1974 Ford (meaning no catalytic converters) and uses a state assigned VIN.
Note the factory 1974 VIN stamp remains legible on the right front frame rail and is the number used in this listing for authentication.
A Marti report is also included.
1970's Highboy prices have seen some big gains in recent years.
While you see many on the market well north of $50k, this one is very competitively priced given its exceptional condition.
It is a great way to enjoy all the fun these classic 4x4 pickups have to offer.
